Once upon a time in the early 1950s a group of five or six high school girls entered a diner in Poughkeepsie New York. They were told that they could not be served. The reason being that one of the girls was black. They immediately left the diner and went their way. I never thought there was such hatred in the north. Just imagine all the negative feelings that resulted from such an event. None of the girls had committed a crime or even caused a disturbance. They simply wanted something to eat. How could anyone be so callous as to openly show hatred toward young innocent girls that simply wanted something to eat and were willing to pay for what they got
On an occasion, in the early 1960s, I was on a business trip and had to change planes in Birmingham Alabama. I went to the restroom and was about to open the door when I discovered that the sign on the door said “colored men”. I was somewhat taken aback as I was from the north and had never encountered such a thing or even imagined such a thing. I looked at the next door and discovered that it said “white men”. When I came out of the men’s room I decided to get a drink. I walked up to the water fountain, and was ready to take a drink, when I noticed a sign on the fountain that said “blacks only”. 2 inches away was another water fountain with a sign that said “whites only”. When I got over the shock I realized that I was in a different world from the one I was used to. I thought about this a lot as I was waiting for my plane. I remembered when I was a senior in high school, a black family moved into town. It was the first black family that had ever lived there while I was there. I don’t recall anyone having any resentments toward the family. I guess we had just not yet been programmed to hate blacks.
On another business trip, in the early 1960s, I was at a business in Houston Texas. When I had breakfast at the restaurant I noticed that there were no blacks anywhere around. Later, at the business location, I talked to the local engineer and inquired as to why there were no blacks in the restaurant. He informed me that they were not allowed to be with the whites. He said if they worked in the restaurant they were only allowed to be where the whites were to serve the food but they could not be there while the whites were eating. I thought this was a bit silly, but it wasn’t silly at all, it was disgraceful. So, during our conversation, I realized that the engineer was very prejudiced against the blacks.
I thought perhaps I could use a little logic on the engineer to demonstrate how ridiculous it is to be prejudiced. I said to him, what would you do if a spaceship landed and the door opened and out walked these super intelligent people but they were black. He said, I’d shoot the sons of bitches one by one as they got off the spacecraft. This is a prime example of someone who chooses to be willfully ignorant. We should all remember the term willfully ignorant and become mindful of the places where it applies.
Hatred due to willful ignorance is alive and well in America. It is all so obvious in our political system today that many people hate our president simply because he is black. Oh I know you won’t find many people that will admit this. And this is part of the problem. There may even be people who don’t even realize that their hatred is merely because he is black. However, it is encouraging that there are enough people in the United States to elect a black man to be president. It makes me wonder why anyone would want a job where 100 million people would like to see him dead. It is discouraging to me that some of my very good friends carry some of this hatred with them. No amount of logic can change their mind. Using Jesus as an example, even for some of those who are devoutly religious in the Christian faith, cannot change their mind.
This is where cosmic mysteries come in. Little do some people realize how they have opened themselves to cosmic hatred. Cosmic energy is provided to us everywhere. We are free to use it for good or evil. My astral projection experiences have shown me that cosmic hatred exists in the astral worlds as well as the physical world.
I sometimes thought, won’t it be nice, when I die, to be rid of all the hatred in this physical world. But I know that death does not necessarily free us from exposure to such hatred. It appears that we take our mental attitudes with us when we die. It is sad to think that the transition of death will not awaken us to a better understanding of why we exist and what we should be doing.
I hate to burst anybody’s bubble, but I suspect that this great paradise, that so many look forward to, may be another place where we are given jobs to do to further develop our spirituality. And so, the cosmic mysteries go on.
